How a roof-vented dryer line actually gets cleaned
The dryer comes out first. We disconnect the transition duct at the wall and inspect it before anything else. A rotary brush goes in from inside, driven slowly on a drill. Slow matters. Overspinning a brush head in a long run is how heads come off inside the duct. Then the ladder goes up. We pull the roof jack cap, brush down from above, and meet the work from the interior side. The dryer runs on air-only at the end to push loosened lint out the roof, not into the attic.
Roof jacks collect more than lint here. Dry-season dust, pollen and spider webbing bind with it into a mat behind the screen. Caps missing a working damper flap invite birds and rodents, common on foothill-edge properties near the range. Screens in a roof cap should not be there at all on a dryer vent.
Second-floor closet runs climb through the attic before they turn up. Every elbow eats into the manufacturer's equivalent-length allowance. Long runs that already exceed it never clear themselves between visits.
Winter marine humidity packs the lint damp, so it clings like felt instead of blowing free. Long upstairs roof-vented runs usually need attention every six to nine months.
What happens after you call
- 1
Call and tell us your dryer brand, where the vent exits, and how long a load takes now. We book a 90 minute arrival window and text you when the van is 20 minutes out.
- 2
We look at the run first, from the machine to the outside hood, then hand you the price in writing. If the duct is crushed or needs a booster fan, you hear that number before we start.
- 3
We pull the lint, brush the full run, reconnect the hose with a clamp instead of tape, then run a load and check the airflow at the hood while you watch. The laundry area gets vacuumed.
